US Census 2010
- The census is a count of everyone living in the United States every 10 years.
- The census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution.
- The next census is 2010.
- Your participation in the census is required by law.
- It takes less than 10 minutes to complete
- Federal law protects the personal information you share during the census.
- Census data are used to distribute Congressional seats to state, to make decisions about what community services to provide, and to distribute $300 billion in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year.
Conducted every 10 years, the census is the largest peacetime mobilization undertaken by our government. More than 130 million addresses across the nation will receive a census form in March 2010. While most U.S. residents are aware of the census, many are not familiar with the timing or the process. For example, many do not know that completing and returning their form is the most efficient way to participate, or that census workers must visit every household that does not return their census form.
It is important that you participate in the US Census 2010...everyone counts! Your numbers determine how much money comes in to help your communities, reservations, and state. It controls how much money comes in for education...You only hurt your community when you allow yourself to remain uncounted
